getWaiter! spoke to the owners of Silverstone Real Ale Brewery about the GREATWORTH Soapbox Derby:
GW: What made you join the event?
The Inn at Greatworth was the first pub to take our beer when we launched Silverstone Real Ale back in April 2016. It has sold so well that they have our beer on permanently, so when the opportunity came up to support an event in their village we wanted to be part of it.
With the “Home of British Motor Racing” on the doorstep our beers, branding and merchandising currently reflect more than sixty years of motor sport at the world famous Silverstone Circuit. Our mission is to celebrate the pioneering and flamboyant characters of the early days of motorsport by engineering their passion into our beers. We are totally committed to creating beers that have that special DNA of excitement and skill, a beer we’re proud to make and more importantly that our customers are proud to drink. Soapbox racing with the finishing line at the pub just fell right into our product niche.
GW: How did you generate your design idea for the soap box?
We want to capture the essence of the brewery in our soapbox. It will therefore be in the shape of a bottle of our beer so we can have our normal branding on bottle.
Having walked the soapbox course, the two Pauls (Paul Tombs, founder and MD of getWaiter! and Paul Leggett) then designed a running chassis that would be capable of negotiating the track safely several times and also providing a shape and frame that would fit to the bottle body work. They’ve even managed to incorporate suspension for the drivers comfort and of course disc brakes to make sure they don’t fly past the pub!
GW: Sounds great, so what other events does the Silverstone Real Ale Brewery have coming up?
We will be at the Silverstone track throughout the summer serving our ales at the various Motorsport events. On 2-4 June 2017 we have our beers at the CAMRA Northampton Beer Festival. We will also have an another brewery open day in August, on which we’ll keep our fans posted on via social media.
The GREATWORTH Soapbox Derby will be taking place on the 20th May 2017.
